Alpha Alpha Rho Zeta Chapter

Norwalk, Connecticut

History

Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated

We would be remiss not to pay homage to the first women who believed in the need for a new and different type of Greek-lettered organization and acted upon that need. To these women, Zeta was more than an organization – it was a movement. This belief system reflected, at its core, the desire to provide true Service, embrace Scholarship, set a standard for Sisterly Love, and define the noble concept of Finer Womanhood. This belief has sustained and encouraged Zetas worldwide to hold fast to the ideals initiated and developed by its earliest members.

And listen to their journey, in their own words.

Alpha Alpha Rho Zeta Chapter

In the tradition of our founders, the Norwalk Zetas are a body of history makers and barrier breakers. We count within our ranks the first Black person appointed deputy director of Juvenile Probation for the state of Connecticut, the first-ever director of the Youth and Recreation Department for the city of New Haven and the first and only Black person to serve as a bureau chief or deputy for People magazine.

Our membership also includes a veteran of the U.S. Army who served as an intelligence analyst with top secret clearance, a criminal justice professional, associate pastors, educators, sports coaches, media and financial professionals, nurses, social workers and more.

Chartered on March 13, 2015, by 12 Finer Women committed to upholding Zeta Phi Beta’s ideals of Scholarship, Sisterhood, Service and Finer Womanhood, Alpha Alpha Rho Zeta Chapter serves the communities of lower Fairfield County, Connecticut including Norwalk, Stamford and Danbury.

Since it was chartered, the chapter has grown through new member initiation and seasoned soror reclamation.

And in 2020, like the rest of our proud sisterhood, Alpha Alpha Rho Zeta was thrilled to usher in Zeta’s Centennial year.

Celebrating 100 Years

In 2020, the Norwalk Zetas commemorated the 100th year of Zeta Phi Beta’s founding with a chapter photo shoot.

Centennial membership class

In 2020, although people around the globe were thrust into shutdown mode because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Norwalk Zetas pressed on and welcomed our Centennial membership class into the sisterhood.

Spring 2022 Membership Class

And during Spring 2022, we brought in another class of Finer women.
